Ordering Emu Chicks - Must Read Prior to Placing Order

New Ordering Information for the 2024 Emu Chick Season

Thank you so much to everyone for your interest in our emus! We are truly humbled and grateful that there are so many folks looking to raise emus and obtain emu chicks from us.  We have worked very hard since 2010 to obtain healthy stock and a wide variety of genetics in our emu mob that now consists of 24 emus (20 adults and 4 juveniles).  We raise emus in all colors: White, Blonde and Standard (brown).  We have 7 white, 11 blonde and 6 standard emu on our farm.

If you are new to emus and have questions, please feel free to reach out to us at info@moonlightvalleyfarm.com .   All visits and pickups are by appointment only as we practice strict bio-security.

For 2023/2024 we are no longer operating off of waiting lists.  All emu chicks are sold on a first come first serve basis on our website.

  • After much consideration and due to an excessive number of folks submitting to our emu chick waiting list who were not serious or did not get back to us once contacted, we have decided to continue the "first come first serve" ordering procedure for purchasing emu chicks for the 2023/2024 emu chick season. This is the only way to be fair to folks who are truly committed and ready for their emu chicks and allows you to get your emu chicks in the time frame you choose, based on what is available and listed on our website.  We will no longer keep a waiting list and emu chicks will be listed on our website as they become available with a time frame listed for pickup.  We utilized this method in 2022 & 2023 and it worked very well and allowed folks to get the emu chicks that they choose around the time that they were ready for them.  Since we hatch emu chicks as early as December and as late as May/June, this method lets you choose when you want to purchase your emu chicks (early season or late season).

  • We like to get new chicks into their homes between 2-3 weeks of age, which allows them to be easily acclimated to their new homes and their new owners.

  • We will NOT be contacting folks individually and will not have a waiting list in 2023.   All emu chicks will be listed on the website on a first come first serve basis.  We will reach out to multiple folks at a time if you have requested to be contacted when emu chicks are available, but we cannot hold emu chicks while waiting for folks to get back to us.  Your order reserves your emu chicks to be picked up in the time frame listed on the emu chicks listing.  You agree when purchasing on our website that you have read and agree to all of our ordering terms and conditions listed herein.

  • Once we receive DNA results back, the emu chicks will be listed on our website and an available pickup date time frame will be listed based on the chicks age being 2-3 weeks old. Your emu chicks must be picked up in the time frame in the listing and not beyond the chick being 3 weeks of age.   If there are extenuating circumstances and you need more time to pickup your emu chicks, please contact us at info@moonlightvalleyfarm.com PRIOR to placing your order.  We can occasionally hold chicks longer, but there will be an additional fee of $5 per day if we choose to do this (and this is only at our discretion since we have such a high demand for emu chicks at this time).  Please obtain quotes for transporting prior to placing your order for emu chick(s).

  • You may choose to pay at the time of ordering, or you may also choose to pay cash, money order or credit card/debit card, Paypal or Venmo at the time of pickup.  We accept all major credit or debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express & Discover).   We do NOT accept checks for emu chicks.

  • Note:  We do NOT require you to pay via "friends & family" Paypal, as we are a fully licensed business LLC and pay the appropriate fees and have a credit card terminal at our farm.  There are many backyard breeders popping up who will require no fee payments, Venmo, deposits or cash only.  We do not feel this is an ethical way to conduct business.  We are also available AFTER the sale to answer any questions you may have about raising your emus.  Please do your homework and only purchase your emu chicks from reputable breeders.  Also, please remember that there are many scammers out there, so please ask lots of questions before giving someone money via the pay methods (such as Venmo, Paypal-friends & family, Cashapp, etc)

  • If you choose to pay at pickup, you must contact me within 24 hours to setup your pickup day and time. If we do not hear from you within 24 hours, we will cancel your order and relist the emu chicks on our website.  If you pay at the time of ordering, please contact me within 48 hours to setup a pickup time.

  • We are available 7 days a week for pickups and can be very accommodating regarding pickup times, since we know some folks will be traveling or arranging transportation. Please email us at info@moonlightvalleyfarm.com prior to ordering, if you have any questions regarding picking up your emu chicks or arranging transportation with a transporter.

  • We DO NOT ship emu chicks, so please do not place an order and ask us to ship your emu chicks.

  • Buyers are responsible for all import regulations into your state. We do not monitor each states requirements for imports.  Also, we do not allow orders for emu chicks if you reside outside of the United States due to the various import/export regulations and requirements.   ALL EMU CHICKS ARE SOLD FOR LIVESTOCK USES.  MOONLIGHT VALLEY FARM, LLC DOES NOT MONITOR EACH CUSTOMER'S USE OF EMU CHICKS ONCE THEY LEAVE OUR PROPERTY.

  • We offer a ONE week (7 day) health guarantee on our emu chicks. Unfortunately, this is simply because emu chicks can be fragile and we have no way of knowing if you are keeping the chicks at the proper temperatures, preventing slipping, cleanliness of your brooder, feeding properly, etc.   We will NOT be responsible for any travel fees, veterinary fees, or any other fees relating to the care of your emu chicks.  If you are not within driving distance or had to arrange transport, we may choose to refund at our discretion versus giving you another chick.  If we do not have another chick of similar age, color, gender we may also choose to refund you.  We reserve the right to choose a refund or replacement solely at our discretion if your chick dies within the first week (7 days) from the pickup date.  A photo of the deceased chick with the band still on the leg will be required to receive a replacement chick or refund if your chick should die.  We will also ask that you place the deceased chick in a sealed plastic bag immediately and drop it off within 12-24 hours at the PA state veterinarian or qualified lab in your state for a full necropsy.  Refund or replacement, if any, will be based on the cause of death.  Under no circumstances shall Moonlight Valley Farm, LLC be responsible for veterinary charges after you pickup the emu chick(s).

  • We do not accept returns and do not offer refunds on emu chicks if you change your mind or have circumstances that you are no longer able to keep the emu chick(s).

  • If you transfer ownership (sell, trade or give away) of your emu chicks in the first week (7 days) from pickup, you relinquish any rights for a refund or exchange if your emu chick(s) dies.

  • You will be given a 3 page instruction sheet for your emu chicks, a sample bag of feed and vitamin mixture, a small bag of mixed greens/kale and the eggshell from which your chick hatched. You will also receive the DNA certificate for each chick.

  • You agree to follow our instruction care sheets and not change the food during the first week. Failure to comply with the instruction sheet will forfeit the 1 week (7 day) health guarantee and you will not receive a refund or replacement if your chick(s) should die during the first week.

  • Our emu chicks are banded at hatch time. The emu chicks listed on the website WILL BE the exact emu chicks that you receive since each chick is given an ID number corresponding to the female parent, the egg number, band number and hatch date.  We will be listing emu chicks on our website as soon as the DNA results are back and this may be once or several times per week.  Please watch the website for any updates or available emu chicks.

  • Emu chicks do best in pairs and since they have already had the companionship of other emu chicks here at our farm, it can be stressful to take them away and try to raise them as a single chick. We will be listing some chicks singly so that you may choose multiple colors, genders, etc.  PLEASE BE AWARE OF THIS IF YOU ARE ONLY PURCHASING ONE EMU CHICK (you will need to be constantly attentive to the emu chick as it will need your companionship since it does not have another emu friend).  We list them singly so that you may choose your selections, but we DO NOT recommend just buying one emu chick.

  • If you are wanting more than one emu chick or multiple selections of emu chicks by gender and colors, PLEASE DO NOT PLACE AN ORDER for a single emu chick and ask us to hold it until the rest of your selections hatch.  We simply cannot hold chicks as we never know what will hatch.  Instead, you will need to watch availability and ONLY ORDER when we have all of your selections available.  I reserve the right to cancel an order immediately if you order and ask me to hold a chick(s) until more hatch

  • The first letter in the ID # of the emu chick is the female that laid the egg.  If the first letter in the ID is different, then the emu chicks are unrelated.  If the first letter in the ID# is the same, then the emu chicks are siblings.

  • We reserve the right to retain any stock that we may want to add to our breeding program.  Also, due to the recent Avian Influenza outbreak, we also reserve the right to cancel an order and offer a refund if you paid online, if bio-security warrants it at the time of order or before pickup.  We take great care in protecting our birds on our farm and for the safety of our birds, we limit pickups to only our driveway area in front of our garage.

  • The best way to reach us is through email at: info@moonlightvalleyfarm.com  Due to the high demand of folks contacting us for general information or advice for emu chicks they hatched themselves or purchased elsewhere, we simply cannot take all phone calls for questions about emu chicks.   Facebook Messenger has been unreliable and we sometimes don’t get notified of our messages for several days, so again, please email us at info@moonlightvalleyfarm.com for any questions or inquiries.

  • We WILL NOT BE SELLING HATCHING EGGS FROM OUR EMUS IN 2023/2024.

  • Our farm address for pickups is: Moonlight Valley Farm, LLC - 540 Bull Valley Rd Aspers, PA 17304  At this time, we do not offer farm tours in our pastures, however when you come to pickup your emu chicks, you may see our adult emus through the fencing (we do not allow anyone in the pastures due to bio-security measures).

  • We have been raising emus since 2010 and we realize the excitement in getting your first emu chicks (as we have been there ourselves). That said, please do your research or ask questions prior to purchasing your emu chicks.  Emus can live for many years and they are a lifelong commitment.  A 5-6 foot minimum fence is required and also please check your township zoning before placing your order and picking up your chicks.  A 3 sided run in shelter, shed, barn or stall is required for shelter.  The more space the emus can have, the better, as during breeding season fighting can occur and this allows them to easily get away from the aggressor to prevent injuries.  If you are going to have more than one female emu, we recommend always having a separate pasture and shelter in case fighting should occur.

  • Please remember that emus do best in pairs (male & female or male & male).

  • Also, we never recommend more females to males. In fact 2 males to 1 female seems to be better in our experience since the females choose the mates and often times the males will “pal” around with another male.  We have found the females tend to fight other females during breeding season.  There is never an exact science or perfect scenario with emus, so please keep in mind that males can also fight other males or sometimes males will fight with a female.

  • We highly recommend purchasing the Emu Farmers Handbook Vol 1 and Vol 2 for additional information on raising emus. Please note that both of these books are out of print, but are invaluable resources on the handling and care of emus.  You may have to search the internet to find a used copy of either book.

  • Our farm and our very own white emu, “Dade” were featured on the Cover of the magazine “Emu Today & Tomorrow”. We highly recommend a subscription to the magazine for new and experienced emu owners.  Additional subscribing information can be found at: https://www.emutoday.com/

  • The Fall 2020 article featuring our farm, Moonlight Valley Farm, LLC can be viewed at: https://www.emutoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/ETT_Fall_2020_100620_WEB.pdf
